Nature Made Botanicals™ was born out of need, love and a lot of encouragement from those around us. I think herbs and plants have always been a part of my life. My earliest memories are of my hands in dirt, planting something or harvesting. Curiosity always had me underfoot. Most of my herbal mentoring and experience was culinary in nature, though home remedies were used by great grandmothers, grandmothers and island women folk.
I was always drawn to medicine and trying to help people, so it’s no wonder that I’m where I am today. In 2002 my husband and I moved to Springfield, Missouri. One of the first things I did was to plant herbs and a vegetable garden. I dehydrated herbs and froze my harvest of vegetables and fruits. When the first ice storm that we experienced left us without power for 12 days, I knew that I had to step up my game if we were to survive the possibilities of that happening again. I examined our experience with a greater depth of curiosity, and found that we, as well as most people were lacking in the medicinal department.
I felt that if I could get us through cold and flu season and some basics, we would be alright and leave the serious stuff for doctors. Little did I know that my curiosity would take me beyond what I had imagined. I started doing research into the medicinal properties of herbs and plants. The more I researched the more fascinated I became til I started making oils, salves, tinctures and whenever a need arose I’d say “I bet there’s a natural alternative for that.” It did help that we have a number of health food stores with well stocked apothecaries to access. I would always be talking about the latest herb and what it was used for back in the day, that friends were starting to get curious and when I showed them what I was making they would say you should start a business. “What! No way! This is just for family! I would say…
I found myself visiting a store that had just opened and I discovered they had an herbal seed rack. I asked the manager if they could order a specific herb that I had difficulty in finding. He asked what I used it for and before you know it we were discussing herbs, their medicinal properties and the desire to carry our products in the store.
My desire was to not only manufacture the product but to become an Alternative Medicine Practitioner and Herbal Consultant. My research led my to Steven Horne and The School of Modern Herbal Medicine.
We at Nature Made Botanicals™ strive to bring not only quality natural products but wellness through education by teaching classes locally.
